Senate majority leader Alan Peter Cayetano said yesterday that he may run for President or continue in his present office as his term will end in 2019 yet.
Senator Cynthia Villar, wife of Nacionalista Party president and former Senate president Manny Villar, had said earlier that Cayetano was among those who may be chosen as NP presidential candidate in next year's election.
But, in the result of the Pulse Asia presidential survey, Cayetano was the three percent choice of respondents, with Vice-President Jejomar Binay still the top choice with 29 percent.
Senator Grace Poe trailed behind Binay with14 percent of the respondents picking her as their presidential choice, while Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, who is supported by Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., ranked sixth.
While he is happy for them, Cayetano, who met yesterday the members of the 11 tricycle associations in Silay City, who had benefitted from his livelihood programs, said they are doing their own survey research, that is not limited only to the top three presidential candidates.
He said majority of the Filipinos have not made up their minds yet on whom they will support in next year's election.
“The surveys are guides, but the survey should follow the people, and not people following the survey,” Cayetano said.
BINAY PROBE
It seems there is no end to the investigations on the allegations of corruption against Binay and other members of his family.
As long as there is an anomaly, and whoever the respondents are, the investigations will continue, Cayetano said.
He said that the Senate has yet to tackle two more issues against the Binays, and the Boy Scout of Philippines controversy is not closed yet.
If Binay wants to end the probe, they should cooperate, he said.
Binay has said that he is ready to face a fair and impartial investigation on all the charges against him and his family, but not in the Senate, which he considers a politicized forum.*GPB
