People's Island sculpture
at Capitol Lagoon
The American Arts Incubator launched the prototype of The People's Island sculpture at the Capitol Lagoon in Bacolod City yesterday in celebration of Earth Day.
It is in preparation for the closing activity of the US Embassy Manila art diplomacy program, American Arts Incubator, or AAI, Saturday at the Bacolod City Baywalk, together with the launching of the installation art, and the four projects funded by a California based organization, Zero1.
American artist Felipe Castelblanco, who led the pre-launching, said this is a test to see if the sculpture will work well on the culminating event.
The AAI is a program administered by the US State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Negros Museum.
Castelblanco‘s “The People's Island”, is a small floating platform of salvaged wood and other buoyant materials used during the incubator program.
The culminating program will include a parade from the Bacolod City Plaza to Baywalk and performances will also be held.
The four Zero1-funded project implementers are University of St. La Salle graduates Keith Cari-an and Aliana Juson, USLS' Institute for Negros Development, and Balayan, and Binhi Arts and Craft.
The projects are Suyac Eco-Resource Center and Library, Busog Lusog Talino program, Disaster Risk Management kit, and an environmental music video, that will each receive P22,000 in cash.
After the presentation, Castelblanco plans to exhibit the People's Island in Suyac Island in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.*
