Three business groups unanimously resolved in a meeting yesterday to support the creation of the Negros Island Region with regional offices located near or within the economic and population center of Negros Island, namely Bacolod City, with major satellite offices in southern Negros and Negros Oriental, businessman Ed Alunan said yesterday.

 The three groups are the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chamber of Real Estate and Builders Association and the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association, he said.

In the meantime, since the NIR's implementation could take several years, Alunan said they respectfully request for the immediate establishment of satellite offices in Bacolod City for the Professional Regulation Commission, the Security and Exchange Commission, and Land Management Bureau.

Vet pushes marketing of yogurt

The Provincial Veterinary Office, through the Negros Occidental provincial government, will seek partnerships with private firms in marketing locally made dairy products like yogurt, Provincial Veterinarian Officer Renante Decena said yesterday.

Once the partnership with private firms push through, the province will only need to provide technical support to animal farm raisers.

Decena said private firms and even a mall have shown interest in partnering with the province to market local dairy products and the yoghurt produced by PVO but negotiations did not materialize.

Lopue's goes green

Energy from renewable resources – like wind, water, and sun – is inexhaustible and clean and a recent global report said that renewable energy currently constitutes 15 percent of the worldwide energy mix, a press release from Lopue's said.

In Bacolod City, Lopue's Araneta and Lopue's East Centre are two of the first commercial establishments to embrace solar energy locally, the press release said.

In late 2014 968 solar panels were installed in the two stores, generating 60kw for Lopue's Araneta, and 200kw for an enthusiast who has installed panels at his own home since 1980s. The panels act as a complimentary energy source to the usual CENECO line – producing power during the day when the sun is out.
