Lopue's goes green

Energy from renewable resources – like wind, water, and sun – is inexhaustible and clean and a recent global report said that renewable energy currently constitutes 15 percent of the worldwide energy mix, a press release from Lopue's said.

In Bacolod City, Lopue's Araneta and Lopue's East Centre are two of the first commercial establishments to embrace solar energy locally, the press release said.

In late 2014 968 solar panels were installed in the two stores, generating 60kw for Lopue's Araneta, and 200kw for an enthusiast who has installed panels at his own home since 1980s. The panels act as a complimentary energy source to the usual CENECO line – producing power during the day when the sun is out.

Both stores feature other green innovations as well. Almost all indoor lighting has been converted to LED tube lights and rainwater collection and recycling tanks are being utilized to supplement water needs as thousands of patrons and tenants use up several hundred liters of water a day. These are only some of the first improvements in tackling water wastage and energy consumption, the press release said.

Though solar energy and other green tech still have their limitations, it has come a long way since its early inception. More and more building are seeing the benefits of greener living. The world has long begun to embrace the idea of clean energy and Bacolod is now fortunate to have the technology accessible to everyone, the press release added.*
