An official of the Bacolod City Water District admitted yesterday that their water supply is short by 2000 cubic meters per day and that is affecting thousands of households.
Jenelyn Gemora, its assistant general manager for operations, said their average water demand daily is 44,000 cubic meters but they can only supply 42,000 cubic meters at the most.
Gemora said the shortage is not directly attributable to El Niño because it is just a temporary occurrence and there is really a need to add water supply due to increasing population and demand.
She said they now have two have two spring fields and 45 operating wells while the drilling operation for two new wells is ongoing.
Gemora added the water firm plans to add three to four more wells this year and have published the bulkwater supply project invitation this week for their 25-year supply requirement in the national and local dailies.
Meanwhile, complaints reached the DAILY STAR that there were areas with meager to no water supply over the weekend.
Gemora said they had a lot of downtime because of long brownouts over the weekend and frequent voltage fluctuation in their service areas. Even if the power is back, it would still take time to develop the water system pressure, resulting in delay of the delivery of the supply, she said.
The affected areas during the weekend were Barangays 26 to 29, Taculing, Villamonte and the areas of Lopue's East, Ramylu in Brgy. Tangub, Eroreco in Brgy. Mangdalagan, Fortune Towne and PatriciaHomes in Brgy. Estefania, Gonzaga, Lopez Jaena, Luzuriaga and BBB Galo streets, she said.*APN
