3 meted life for shabu;
drug suspect shot dead
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Three men were meted life terms yesterday after being found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating the provisions of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Regional Trial Court Branch 30 presiding judge, Crescencio Tan Jr., found Antonio Chan, John Philip Kirit, and Michael Tanamor guilty, and fined them 500,000 each. He also ordered them to be shipped to the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa to serve their prison terms.

Chan and Kirit were arrested with 0.27 gram of shabu in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Tinago, Dumaguete City, by Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group on October 30, 2013. Tanamor was nabbed, also during a buy-bust, on February 25, 2014, at Poblacion 1, Dumaguete, with 0.61 gram of shabu.

The official minimum fare rates in Dumaguete City puzzled tricycle drivers, operators and passengers, when the approved fare ordinance was returned to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for second reading.

The ordinance had merged three proposed ones submitted to the SP after the one-day strike of motorcabs for hire in Dumaguete.

It was returned for second reading because it did not specify the approved minimum fare that is P8, for the first two kilometers with P1 for every additional kilometer.

Engineers discuss
concerns in confab

The two-day regional conference of members of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines Inc., that started yesterday in Dumaguete City will take up loopholes in the signing and sealing of plans, drawings and technical designs.

The law says it is illegal for a Professional Electrical Engineer to sign and seal drawings and designs that are done by others. The practice can be a sufficient ground for revocation of the electrical engineer's license for unprofessional and dishonorable conduct.

More than 200 electrical engineers from Eastern and Central Visayas are attending the conference hosted by Wilfredo Canizares, to enhance their skills and be updated on recent trends in the electrical engineering profession. The IIEE is also celebrating its 40 th anniversary, on the theme “A Journey of Service for Excellence”.
