Bacoleños fall victim
to ‘investment scam'

Three Bacoleños reported to Police Station 6 that they recently fell victim to an “investment scam” where they were promised large profits in 20 days, from the money they invested.

The complainants aged 56, 68, and 75 years old, whose names the police withheld, alleged that they have not gotten their investments back, and Isagani Santos, 45, of Nueva Ecija, the alleged owner of the Golden Seal firm, and his staff, cannot be contacted anymore, Senior Insp. Charles Gever, Station 6 commander, said yesterday.

The Golden Seal's office at Rosario-Rosea streets in Barangay 33, Bacolod, has been closed, the complainants said in their blotter reports.moremoremore

Alcala approves
Sugarcane Act IRR

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala yesterday approved the implementing rules and regulations of the Sugarcane Industry Development Act (SIDA) of 2015, Sugar Regulatory Administrator Ma. Regina Martin said.

The IRR will take effect 15 days after publication, she added.

Rule 11 of the IRR states that the Department of Budget and Management is mandated to include annually, starting 2016, an initial amount of P2 billion in the president's program of expenditures for the improvement of the sugarcane industry, for submission to Congress.moremoremore

Heavy rains trigger flood,
Bayawan folk evacuated

Continuous downpour for several hours yesterday led to the pre-emptive evacuation of a number of families living along the river banks and in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.

It was not immediately known how many families were brought to pre-designated evacuation centers at around 2 to 3 p.m. yesterday by rescuers deployed by the Bayawan City government.

Earlier reports had it that heavy downpour started at past midnight Tuesday, and rains continued to inundate the southern city until yesterday, triggering flooding of the Nangka River..moremoremore
