NHA to release housing assistance for
Sendong victims in Dumaguete

The National Housing Authority will release its first tranche of financial assistance to the Dumaguete City government for the socialized housing project, worth P70 million, for victims of tropical storm Sendong in 2011.

Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said he was leaving for the National Capital Region to receive the NHA check representing payment for the inheritance tax the landowners for the proposed project site are requesting in advance.

He said the partial payment is for the 3.4-hectare property, owned by the Tale family in Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City, which was previously identified as site where the 1,000 housing units for pre-identified Sendong victims will be built..

Three flee from
‘illegal recruiters'

Two women and a blind person, believed to be victims of illegal recruitment, took refuge in Dumaguete City after allegedly receiving threats from their former employer in Jaro, Iloilo City.

A 17-year-old female minor, a 30-year-old single mother with her one-year-old child, and a blind masseur, 33, decided to flee from their employer in Jaro July 30, and arrived in Dumaguete the following day.

The masseur said he first worked at the massage clinic in Jaro, and his employees, identified only as Lourdes and Bobbi, told him to recruit first-timers in the massage business. He said he recruited his friends in Pagadian through cell phone, telling them of the good offer, including SSS and PhilHealth coverage, and a daily allowance of P100 while training.
