Ethanol plant in Bais up
for temporary closure
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The ethanol plant in Bais City, Negros Oriental, is now the subject of a temporary closure to be implemented by the city government and the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 7, for its alleged failure to comply with some provisions of its Environmental Compliance Certificate, and other requirements.

This developed as another fish kill was reported early this week in the Bais City- Manjuyod area, believed to have been caused by effluents coming from the ethanol plant and discharged into the sea.

City Legal Officer Lloyd Elmaco had told reporters the Bais Sangguniang Panlungsod had passed a resolution recently, recommending to Mayor Mercy Goñi the temporary closure of the ethanol plant until it had built another treatment pond for its waste discharge.moremoremore
