Visayas power
state: ‘yellow alert'
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

“The problems of energy cannot just be solved by one department. These needs laws,” former Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla yesterday said during the Philippine Councilors League Credit Cooperative Summit at SMX Bacolod.

Petilla, who represented Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, said that before he left the DOE, he requested the President to protect the circulars he issued. These were game-changing circulars that will help electricity become more stable and cheaper, he said.

Three years after he became Energy Secretary, electricity rates in Manila significantly reduced because of an experiment they conducted with several families. This is what's going to happen with the circulars he issued and it can be replicated elsewhere, he said.moremoremore

Anti-criminality task
force to be created

Preparations for the creation of an inter-agency task force that will respond to emergencies and address criminalities are now underway in Negros Oriental.

Col. Alan Martin, 302 nd Army brigade commander, said Governor Roel Degamo met with officials of security forces in the province early this week to firm up plans for the task force, which is eyed to be operational by September, in line with the province's celebration of the Buglasan Festival.

Members of the task force will come from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, the Philippine Coast Guard, National Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, maritime police, Highway Patrol Group, Aviation Security Command, and other law enforcement units.moremoremore
