Going healthy at
weekend market

BY KARLA PANGANIBAN

That best describes the feeling of those who purchased organic products at the Organic Weekend Market at Ayala District North Point, Talisay City, over the weekend.

“This is a great way to shop, I was able to buy and eat organic fruits and vegetables,” Trisha Gayanilo said.

There were about 25 stalls selling a variety of goods at the weekend market.

Herbs and ornamentals were a hit at the fair, and Nanette's Plant Nursery had wide array of indoor plants, bonsai, shrubs and hanging baskets.

Owner Nanette Agudo Thiel said that the plants are grown in their own plant nursery.

Apart from plants, they also have native chickens and duck eggs, goats and bangus. During the weekend market, they also sold dishes like Binacol and Patotin.

Theil's stall also had sinamak and vinegar made of 100 percent pure coconut vinegar.

Jarvis Gourmet Foods offered pesto sauce, puttanesca and other specialties including Tuna Tapanade, Saluyot Cheese Spread and Coco Jam.

Vendor Nanette Zerrudo said their new products are French Malunggay Bread and Biscocho Minis.

At the 10 th Street Bees stall, Arturo Uychiat said their products came from Italian Bees. “These are imported and easy to culture,” he said.

They had Higinio's Spanish Sardines, bee pollen, honey, bee pollen capsules and propolis, he said.

Uychiat said their products if included in the daily diet can be energy enhancers and skin soothers. “It can also have good effects on the respiratory system and digestive system, can treat allergies, and boost the immune system,” he said.

Organik na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association (ONOPRA) head Ramon Uy Jr. said the weekend market provides an opportunity for organic producers and retailers to showcase their products.

The weekend market is a joint effort of Ayala Malls , The District North Point , ONOPRA, Art Association of Bacolod-Negros , Negros Occidental provincial government and Slow Food Negros .*KDP
