Cops intensify campaign vs. drugs

Law enforcement agencies tasked in curbing the proliferation of illegal drugs in Negros Oriental were directed to hit hard on suppliers and dealers, especially of shabu, Senior Insp. Ryan Jay Orapa, team leader of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, said.

He said all law enforcement agencies will concentrate in one area that is considered a hot spot for shabu and conduct a saturation drive, before transferring to another hot spot.

The group conducted successive buy-busts operations in Barangay Looc, Dumaguete, recently.

Concert tonight in Silliman

The friendship games between Silliman University and the University of St. La Salle expands this year to include partnership in culture and the arts, a press release from SU said.

A choral concert will be staged 8 tonight at the SU Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium, featuring the Silliman University Gratitude and Goodwill Ambassadors and the Silliman Dance Troupe, and the 27-member La Salle Chorale , the press release also said.*

NegOr commended

Maj. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, commanding officer of the 3 rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division of the Philippine Army, led the pinning of ranks and awarding of merit medals to outstanding personnel of the 79 th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion based in Siaton, Negros Oriental, recently.

Guerrero was guest of honor and speaker at the 9 th foundation anniversary of the Army unit August 19, attended by unit friends, visitors and stakeholders, despite the intermittent downpour brought on by typhoon “Ineng”, its press release said.

The pinning of ranks to six promoted personnel, awarding of military merit medals to nine personnel, and pinning of personnel readiness badges to 30 soldiers highlighted the celebration. Guerrero also presented a plaque of recognition to retired Col. Nestor Porlucas, the first commanding officer of the battalion.
