LPG future seen in
composite tanks

MANILA -- The Department of Energy (DOE) sees the future of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry with composite tanks and fuel canisters.

"The Philippines after all is now economically and socially growing, therefore our methods should adjust to it... This now includes composite tanks and fuel canisters which is already available in the market," said DOE officer-in-charge Secretary Zenaida Monsada in a speech during the LPG Philippines Forum 2015 at SMX Aura in Bonifacio Global City yesterday.

Monsada noted the LPG bill filed in 2011 in Congress is also targeted to be passed before elections next year.

"We have been working on an LPG bill that protects consumers in terms of the quality and safety of energy products," she said.

Monsada explained the bill aims to avoid purchases of illegally refilled or dilapidated tanks and provide safety to the consumers.

She said the DOE will help strengthen the LPG industry since it sees natural gas as the fuel of the future.

Monsada also called upon the public to stop buying LPG anti-leak devices.

She added the agency will also help the LPG sector to further improve public transport as LPG is commonly used by taxis.

The bill's second reading was already approved by the Congress on Sept. 2011, but it had been delayed as lawmakers said they need more time to interpellate the proposed measure.

The bill was filed as House Bill No. 5617 and was authored by Rep. Susan Yap (Tarlac, 2 nd District).*PNA
