The Kasadya Bacolod Development Foundation Inc. in partnership with the Bacolod City government launched the 2015 MassKara Festival yesterday at the GT Hotel in Bacolod City with the theme “It's Booming Bacolod. Experience the Vibrance!”
Festival director Rhoderick Samonte said yesterday that all MassKara Festival sites will open on September 26 while the grand opening of the MassKara Festival will be on October 1 at 5 a.m. at the Bacolod Public Plaza and in the evening at the People's House (Bacolod City Government Center or NGC) grounds.
Samonte this year's edition will be “unique” as the KBDFI aims to raise funds for the continuing peace and order efforts of the current administration. Among their targets will be to donate two motorcycles per precinct and another vehicle for the City Tourism Office, he said.
Pre-MassKara Na! events will include the MassKara Queen press presentation and swimwear competition at Palmas Del Mar on September 19 and a BacoNippon Festival on September 25 at the People's House (NGC), Samonte said.
Festival kiosks, carnival sites and the opening of the MassKara Nights sa Barangay and the MassKara Seafood Alley will be unveiled on the 26 th , he said.
Samonte said the MassKara Nights sa Barangay will expose local talents as they will compete in dance and singing competitions.
The new event for this year's MassKara is the ExtreMasKarra on October 9-10 at the Centrale in Eroreco. Coordinator Griffin Ramos said the event will tap on outdoor sports enthusiasts with events such as bike races, skateboarding and 3on3 basketball.
Meanwhile, the MassKara in the Sky on October 14 will be one of the foundation's environmental campaigns. It will focus on illuminating the city's skies with quadcopters, drones and kites.
Real estate giant Megaworld has expressed their intent to sponsor the event, he said.
Also, this year's Electric MassKara will span for two days starting October 17. Coordinator Rodney Ascalon said that floats will coincide with the theme and will depict their rendition of “Bacolod as the next future city”.
Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said MassKara is unstoppable and it will continue to grow over the years, as he thanked Samonte and the rest of the KBDFI for their efforts.
The Reclamation Area, which will host the 2-day MassKara by the Sea alongside Barangay Punta Taytay, will also be tapped as a venue so that “people can choose” and to “spread the MassKara fever” all over the city.
“MassKara is for everyone to enjoy,” Puentevella said, as he thanked the media for pushing for the growth of the festival on the international scene.*CGS
