Sugarcane Act: Albee

Both houses of Congress have ratified the proposed Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2014, which had been approved by the congressional bicameral conference committee, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday.
The measure was ratified by the Senate Monday and the House on Tuesday, he said.
The ratified measure is expected to be sent to the president this week for him to sign into law, or veto, Benitez said.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development provincewide spot checks have found out that more Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program cash cards have been pawned in Bacolod and Cadiz cities, and in Hinigaran town.
Dionela Flores-Madrona, DSWD Negros Occidental 4Ps operations head, said yesterday that they discovered that eight 4Ps cash cards were pawned by beneficiaries in Barangay 35, Bacolod, and several others in Cadiz City and Hinigaran, she said.
There are 126,667 4Ps beneficiaries in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, she said, and those who pawned their cash cards represent only a few. There are also many 4Ps beneficiaries with success stories, she said..

Aussie nabbed for slay
of minor an ex-convict

The Australian national, who was arrested for the killing of a 17-year-old female in Dumaguete City Sunday, was charged in court Tuesday and committed to the Dipolog City jail.
Suspect Ali Ali, 42, was charged with murder, a non-bailable offense, and for violation of Republic Act 7160, or the Anti-Child Abuse and Exploitation Act of the Philippines. The charges were in relation to the death of a girl whose bloodied body was found in a room in a pension house in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte Friday.
Supt. Ranie Hachuela, Dipolog City police chief, said Ali was formally charged before Executive Judge Rogelio Laquihon Tuesday..
