The Australian national, who was arrested for the killing of a 17-year-old female in Dumaguete City Sunday, was charged in court Tuesday and committed to the Dipolog City jail.

Suspect Ali Ali, 42, was charged with murder, a non-bailable offense, and for violation of Republic Act 7160, or the Anti-Child Abuse and Exploitation Act of the Philippines. The charges were in relation to the death of a girl whose bloodied body was found in a room in a pension house in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte Friday.

Supt. Ranie Hachuela, Dipolog City police chief, said Ali was formally charged before Executive Judge Rogelio Laquihon Tuesday.

The operation and supervision of the multi-million-peso Dumaguete Transport Terminal was turned over to the Dumaguete City government by the Dumaguete Business Park Inc. and Robinsons Mall management, in a ceremony in the city Tuesday.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said there is need for private-public partnership because of limited resources of government.

Robinsons spent around P25 million for the construction of the passenger terminal in the private lot owned by DBPI, and the city government allotted P30,000 for the monthly lease of the private road.

visits Dumaguete

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo yesterday assured his all-out support to Rep. Rachel “Baby” Arenas (Pangasinan, 3rd District) in her bid for a seat in the Senate in the 2016 elections.

Arenas was in Dumaguete City to meet with local officials, including Degamo and Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, and told the governor of her desire to get the feel of Negros Oriental in her next visit, and be oriented with the life in the province.

Degamo said he would be happy to show her around when she returns to Negros Oriental. Although it was their first meeting, the two appeared to have found common grounds in concerns and issues on health, education, and catering to the poor and the needy.
