The Department of Agriculture and the provincial government of Negros Occidental distributed yesterday P6 million worth of mechanized farm equipment and pre-post harvest facilities to farmer’s groups, to boost and increase their production of rice and other high value crops.

Representatives of 19 multi-purpose cooperatives and irrigators associations in Negros Occidental received the farm equipment yesterday, which included four-wheel drive tractors, threshers, seed cleaners, reaper harvesters and weighing scales, from Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. and Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan, who represented DA regional director Larry Nacionales.

Tabianan said that resorting to mechanized farming will speed up the preparation of farms to be cultivated, limit expenses and increase yield and production.
