SIFI’s 155th outreach held

The 155th medical dental mission of the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc. and the Association de Hacenderos de Silay-Saravia Inc., through the SIMAG Foundation, was recently held in Sitio Lantawan, Barangay Guimbala-on in Silay City, Negros Occidental recently, a press release from SIFI said.

It benefited 311 sugar workers from nearby haciendas, and small planters and their families, who availed of free medical consultations and medicines, and 60 with dental extractions, while 200 children and some adults were served with dehydrated vegetable soup mix donated by the Ontario Gleaners from Canada and the Loving Rose Mission Philippines, the press release said.

Prevalent illnesses discovered were hypertension, upper respiratory tract infection, abdominal pain, severe cough and colds, fever and first degree malnutrition among children, and hyperacidity, LBM, gastritis, arthritis and anemia for adults, the press release also said.

AHSSI and SIMAG Foundation were represented by Resty Mondia, community organizer/training officer; Rosemarie Geronimo, health officer/BHW coordinator; Ma Fe Abutal, assistant training officer; Ronnil Abelanio, environment officer/youth coordinator; and Ervin Evangelista, education/children coordinator; the LGU of Silay City is represented by Drs. Rey Martin Locson and Benette Llamado; Brgy. Guimbala-on headed by Barangay Captain Claro Denosta, kagawad Maricar Caldera, and supported by kagawads, BHWs and tanods; and Lantawan Integrated School, led by principal, Leopoldo Fernandez.

Drs. Milagros Amarra, Rosemar Reyes, Eirene Ayalin, Dan Dueñas, Terry Gasataya, Enrique Serna, Rey Martin Locson and Benette Llamado also joined the outreach that is part of the thrust of SIFI to provide medical services and health education to sugar workers and their families, the press release added.*

Silay mass wedding Feb. 24

The Silay City government, in coordination with the Philippine Statistics Authority, will hold the 13th mass wedding at Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center in Silay City, Negros Occidental on February 24, with 52 couples set to marry, a press release from the city said.

City Civil Registrar, Maria Sheila Torres, said Mayor Jose Montelibano and Civil Registrar’s staff will lead the ceremony. She said everything will be provided, cakes and wine served to the couples, and cash prizes awarded for youngest and oldest couples, those with the most number of children, longest living-in, longest kiss, and brides with best gowns, the press release also said.

Provincial Statistics officer Fred Sollesta is expected to attend the event, that is part of the Civil Registrar’s Month celebration, and pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 “Declaring the Month of February of every year as Civil Registration Month” issued January 28, 1991.

The CRO will also conduct mobile registration on February 17 in barangays Bagtic and Barangay E. Lopez, in Silay, and will facilitate a free registration Feb. 27, where late registration for birth and death certificates will be offered for free, the press release added.*
