The Negros Occidental badminton team, showing dominance over their rivals from the five other provinces, ruled the competition in both the elementary and secondary divisions of the 2015 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in Kalibo, Aklan.

The Negros team, powered by selected Negrense shuttlers with Jaguar Badminton Academy mentor Jordan Sun as one of the coaches, bagged the gold in elementary and secondary boys and girls’ singles, boys and girls’ doubles, secondary mixed doubles, and elementary and secondary girls’ team tie.

As of press time, final matches in boys’ elementary and secondary team tie were being played.

Pagnanawon rules opening stage
of Ronda Pilipinas-Visayas leg

Jaybop Pagnanawon outshone big guns Irish Valenzuela and Baler Ravina to rule the 172.7-kilometer Stage One in the Visayas Leg of the Ronda Pilipinas 2015 presented by LBC that started in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental and ended in Sipalay City in Negros Occidental yesterday.

Pagnanawon  showed he was the son of  his father, 1986 Marlboro Tour champion Rolando, by topping the relatively flat stage in four hours, 25 minutes and 10 seconds, besting Valenzuela and Ravina, who checked in at second and third places with times of 4:25.11 and 4:25.12, respectively.

"My father taught me to be confident of my abilities and to work hard to achieve my dream," said the 26-year-old Pagnanawon, a native of Talisay in Cebu, who is representing Team Negros.
