Noreco 2 hiking power rate
BY RENE GENOVE

An impending power rate increase by the Negros Oriental Cooperative 2 will be reflected in its February billings.

General manager Dionefred Macahig said in a press release that the increase is due to the rise in generation charges that makes up most of the billing charges.

Macahig said the increase for residential consumers is from P9.31 in January to P10.02 in February 2015. The low voltage consumers will increase from P8.46 to P9.17 in February, and high voltage consumers with an increase from P6.82 to P7.47 in February.

He also said that, effective in the February 2015 billing period, there will be pass-through charge called the Feed-in Tariff Allowance to be added to the monthly electricity bill of all electricity consumers nationwide.

The FIT-All rate is P0.0406/kWh. This will be reflected in the electricity bill as a separate line item labeled as “FIT-All (Renewable)” placed after the Universal Charge item.

The Energy Regulatory Commission has mandated the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to bill and collect the FIT-All from all its on-grid electricity consumers.

Republic Act No. 9513, or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, was passed to promote the development, utilization and commercialization of renewable energy resources.

The FIT-All collection will go into a fund that will be used to give incentives to power producers who will make use of renewable energy resources. This encouragement is expected to help address the shortage of power in the days to come as forecasted by the national government.*RG
