An impending power rate increase by the Negros Oriental Cooperative 2 will be reflected in its February billings.

General manager Dionefred Macahig said in a press release that the increase is due to the rise in generation charges that makes up most of the billing charges.

Macahig said the increase for residential consumers is from P9.31 in January to P10.02 in February 2015. The low voltage consumers will increase from P8.46 to P9.17 in February, and high voltage consumers with an increase from P6.82 to P7.47 in February.

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A level 3 drug personality was busted and more than P200,000 worth of suspected shabu  was recovered from his residence in a search conducted on his rented house in Purok 2, Barangay Batinguel, Dumaguete City, yesterday.

P/Chief Insp Benedict Poblete, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group chief identified the suspect as Alejandro Tayong Jr., who, intelligence reports say, distributes 200 grams of shabu every week.

Poblete said Tayong’s neighbors have observed that he has visitors especially during night time, on motorcycles with noisy mufflers, going to his house through the back door. This raised their suspicion that something illegal is going on in his residence.

CHR to probe rights violation
against Canadian national

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Commission on Human Rights in Negros Oriental was directed to investigate alleged human rights violations against a Canadian national whose accusations about Dumaguete went viral in the social media.

CHR field investigator Jess Cañete has confirmed that the directive came from the CHR central office where Canadian national Mark Cohen directed his complaint.

Cañete said Cohen wanted the immediate withdrawal of a resolution approved by the city council declaring him persona non-grata due to statements he posted on the social media that are detrimental to the city government.
