As of 5 p.m. yesterday, the Iloilo delegation kept the No. 1 spot in elementary competition with 60 gold medals, 49 silvers, and 31 bronzes while Negros Occidental dominates the secondary contest with 72-41-40 gold-silver-bronze tally of the 2015 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in Kalibo Aklan.
In elementary competition, the Ilonggos won most of the events in elementary boys and girls’ athletics, captured the gold medal in baseball, bowed to Negros in basketball (45-63), topped the elementary boys’ chess, lost to Negros in football (1-2), dominated the sepak takraw and softball, reigned in elementary girls’ table tennis, and settled for silver in volleyball where host Aklan prevailed.
Negros Occidental remained as virtual overall champion in secondary competition as the Negrense stamped their class in boys and girls’ athletics, badminton, fell to Iloilo in boys’ basketball (76-82), shared top honors in boxing events with Iloilo and Aklan, grabbed the gold medal in boys’ chess while settling for silver in the girls’ department, finishing behind Iloilo in sepak takraw, winning the championship in boys and girls’ table tennis, winning the gold in secondary boys’ lawn tennis while yielding to Iloilo in the girls’ competition, and keeping the title in girl’s volleyball.
