With two of the bills he has filed now waiting for their Senate counterparts, Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia has started campaigning for support in the Upper Chamber.
Leonardia yesterday met with Senator Grace Poe in her Senate office to seek support for his bills creating more courts and a local office of the Securities and Exchange Commission for Bacolod City, a press release from his office said.
Poe, who took a break from presiding over the Senate hearings into the Mamasapano massacre, vowed to support Leonardia’s proposed measures.
Bacolod is lucky, Leonardia said. “We have many friends in the Senate. I am optimistic that our legislative initiatives will muster enough support to pass soon. Bills become law after they are approved in both the Lower House and the Senate and after they are signed by the President.
HB 2490 and HB 2491 filed by Leonardia that seek more courts for Bacolod City, has hurdled the Lower House, and is awaiting their Senate counterpart. Senator Aquilino Pimentel, Jr. is sponsoring the Senate version.
HB 2359 that seeks to create a SEC office in Bacolod will be sponsored by Senator Serge Osmena, Leonardia said.*
