Two men killed each other on Valentine’s Day, allegedly because of jealousy over a girl, they both loved in Purok Sagrado 2, Barangay Estefania in Bacolod City, the police said.

The fatalities were identified as Rocky Continedo, 41, of Barangay Tabun-ac in Toboso town, Negros Occidental, and Virgilio Javinez, 44, of Barangay Estefania, police records show.

Police investigation showed that Continedo was stabbed in the stomach by Javinez with a 16-inch long colonial knife, Senior Insp. Benedicto Villarias, Station 4 commander, said yesterday..moremoremore

Cops arrest groom

A bride got the shock of her life when her groom was arrested by police intelligence operatives for double murder, shortly after they were married on Feb. 14, or Valentine’s Day, in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

The suspect, identified as Vicente Servese, 24, of Brgy, Bulanon, Sagay City, was apprehended by virtue of arrest warrants issued by Cadiz Regional Trial Court Judge Renato Nunez for two counts of murder, Police Officer 3 Joshua Barile of the Regional Intelligence Unit 6, said.

The arrest took place at the Wilkinson Social Court in EB Magalona, shortly after the mass wedding activity, Barile said.moremoremore


‘Tax hike raps talks on,
 no need for court battle’

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella expressed optimism that the issue over the new Tax Ordinance could be resolved if all parties only meet and find a solution.

 “The matter will be resolved and there is even no need to go to Court,” Puentevella said.

Regional Trial Court Judge Fernando Elumba of Branch 42 has reset the hearing on the civil case filed by the Chamber of Real Estate Builder’s Association and Subdivision Housing Developers Association-Negros Occidental chapters against the City of Bacolod et al over the new Real Property Tax Code next week after Puentevella met with the businessmen Wednesday for a possible compromise agreement.moremoremore

Korean marries Negrense
at Bacolod mass wedding

A Korean national and his Negrense girlfriend were among the 214 couples who exchanged marriage vows during the mass wedding ceremony Saturday at the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports Center officiated by Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella.

This is the first time a foreign national has joined a mass wedding in Bacolod.

Businessman Jungmin Cho, 39, married Anna Laisa Dayot, 19, a year after they were introduced by a mutual friend in September 2013.moremoremore

Hearing held for construction
of 100-bed tertiary hospital

A corporation has been organized by another group of doctors in Dumaguete City that will put up a six-storey tertiary hospital building with a 100-bed capacity, at Block 10-A-6-D in Barangay Daro, Dumaguete City.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod had sent notices to stakeholders for a joint public hearing Feb. 14, in Purok Kalubihan, Daro.

The public hearing is among three conditions set by the Board of Zoning Appeals for issuing a preliminary zoning compliance clearance to the Allied Care Experts Medical Center Dumaguete Doctors Inc., headed by Dr. Jonathan Amante, to construct and operate a tertiary hospital in Barangay Daro.
