Pacquiao scores first point in PBA

Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao nailed his first point in the Philippine Basketball Association but it was his towering import Peter John Ramos who helped KIA Sorento to score another upset against Purefoods Star, 95-84, on Wednesday night.

Despite his only point from the foul line, Pacquiao remains scoreless from the field, missing another two attempts including one that went air ball.

Kia’s import Ramos, a 7-foot-4 import, scored 32 points and grabbed 26 rebounds while guards LA Revilla and Eloy Poligrates provided support as the Carnival posted their second win in six games in the import-laced PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

”Our players just showed that they can play and fight,” Pacquiao, the team’s playing-coach, said.

The first win of KIA was at the expense of the Philippine Cup champion San Miguel Beer.

Purefoods lost their import Daniel Orton to six personal foul with 1:31 left in the game and the Star absorbed their second straight loss after an impressive 4-0 start in the conference.

Meanwhile, the PBA has summoned Orton, a former NBA player, for the comments he made about Pacquiao and the officiating.

"This game is seriously a joke. The way the game was going, the refs, they made into a mockery, seriously," said Orton, who scored six points in 19 minutes.

He also took shots at Pacquiao as playing coach of Kia.

"That's part of the joke I was talking about," he said. "Professional boxer, yeah okay. Congressman, alright. Professional basketball player? No. It's a joke."*PNA
