Protest eyed vs. permit renewal of
waterworks system operator

BY RENE GENOVE

Barangay Looc officials and other parties are planning to oppose the renewal of certificate of public convenience against the operator of waterworks system in the Port of Dumaguete.

The City Council was told by the executive director of the National Water Resources Board, Sevillo David Jr., to let all interested parties, including Barangay Looc, in the port area file a formal protest to the continued operations of the waterworks system owned by Albino Kho Solon.

David said the parties must submit a written opposition, supported by documentary evidence, and addressed to the agency at least 15 days before the scheduled hearing on March 16 this year.

As of this writing, some councilors are asking for more time to study the problem whether or not the concessioner’s operations will affect the environment.

Solon gets water from a source called “Tubod spring” located in Barangay Piapi. Tubod spring used to be the main source of potable water in the city several years ago before the establishment of the Dumaguete City Water District in the late 70s.*RG
