`Like any other fight’ Pacquiao says
of May 2 battle against Mayweather

Philippine boxing hero Manny Pacquiao may be facing the biggest fight of his career in undefeated rival Floyd Mayweather, but he said yesterday he is taking it all in his stride.

"This is just like any other fight I had before," he told reporters as he went through his regular training regimen in his home town of General Santos in the southern Philippines.

"I've been in this kind of situation many times in my previous fights. It doesn't scare me. I love being the underdog," said Pacquiao, amid reports that oddsmakers in Las Vegas, the venue of the May 2 fight, are giving his opponent the advantage.

Manotoc leads Canlubang
to its 8th PAL Interclub title

Tommy Manotoc capped a triumphant return by leading Canlubang to its eighth Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub golf championship yesterday at the Mactan Island Golf Club.

Manotoc, 65, posted 53 points despite finishing with back-to-back bogeys as Canlubang completed a commanding 17-point win over Luisita.

“After what I have been through in terms of my health and other issues, I feel this is God’s gift to me and I’m just so grateful that I am able to enjoy the game again,” said Manotoc, his voice cracking in emotion.

Nietes displays boxing skills
before townmates in Murcia

World Boxing Organization two-division titlist and longest reigning Filipino world champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes gave his townmates in Murcia a glimpse of his boxing skills in an exhibition fight Saturday at Murcia Sports and Cultural Center.

Nietes, who earlier inaugurated the boxing gym in the town named after him, fought against one of the promising boxers of ALA Gym, Gerard Suico.

The brief display of skills by Nietes serves as a preview of his scheduled March 28 title defense for his WBO junior flyweight belt against Mexican Luis Ceja in Manila.
