Talisay celebrates!

LA VIDA NEGRENSE

Talisay City recently held its successful 17th Charter anniversary, and the celebration was headed by Mayor Eric and first lady Sheila Yap-Saratan, together with city officials. The celebration was highlighted by a recognition ceremony to give honor to outstanding residents and taxpayers.

The event kicked off with a cultural presentation, followed by an adrenalin-pumping sporting competition, like basketball and volleyball games. Talisaynons and guests were awed by the powerful voices of the city’s employees, the local police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Department of Education, and barangay officials as they performed on stage.

The search for the Pasidungog Queen was participated in by seven ladies representing the barangays. It was won by Valerie Blancaflor, 17, of Brgy. Dos Hermanas. Another highlight of the Charter Day festivities was the recognition of model city employees, barangay workers, taxpayers, outstanding families and non-government organizations.

In his Charter Day message, Saratan said that it is very important for every Talisaynon to unite and cooperate to sustain the progress that Talisay had gained since it was declared a city 17 years ago. He said transforming Talisay as a Village City to be among the five leading retirement destinations in the country by 2020 will be realized by making the 27 barangays clean, orderly, safe and congenial.

The first lady will also continue her monthly feeding program to benefit hundreds of children in Talisay.*

A concert filled with
laughter and generosity

It was a night full of laughter and generosity, when parishioners and sponsors gathered Saturday in a concert that aims to raise funds for the construction of the Immaculate Conception Church in Bakyas, Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City.

The jam-packed Pavillon Hotel in Bacolod, where the concert, titled “The King Deserves the Best”, was held, turned into a comedy bar when Ate Gay came out on stage.

Teenagers and teens-at-heart were in awe when Manila’s performers Marion Aunor and Michael Pangilinan took over. Aunor sang her own composition, titled “If You Ever Change Your Mind”, while Pangilinan performed “Pare Mahal Mo Raw Ako”, a Himig Handog 2014 entry.

Negrense charity diva Token Lizares, local talents Kashmere Solano and Joanne Lorvene Bernal, and the Satin Rhythm Band also performed in the concert.

The show was hosted by neurosurgeon Carmelo Canto and MOR 101.5 disc jockey Rico Suave.

Anyone who still would like to donate for the construction of the church may contact Lizares at 0920-8263953.*SGG
