Third cop killed

Three in a row within one month.

Another policeman was gunned down by a motorcycle-riding suspect 7:45 p.m. Monday in San Carlos City, the third one killed within one month in Negros Occidental.

Senior Police Officer 2 Edsel Villanueva, 40, succumbed to three gunshot wounds in his body. He was shot at Gustilo Street, San Carlos City by a lone gunman who fled on board a motorcycle, Supt. Victorino Romanillos, city police chief, said yesterday.

Villanueva, a member of the Calatrava Police Station, was on his way home in San Carlos City, when he was shot, Romanillos added. moremoremore

2 taxi drivers hit by van die

A Mitsubishi L300 van, whose driver allegedly fell asleep, ran over and killed two taxi drivers at 16th-Lacson streets in Barangay 4, Bacolod City, at about 12:20 a.m. yesterday.

The fatalities were identified as Alijandro Macasa, 64, of Barangay Taculing, and Florencio Salimbot, 58, of Barangay Sum-ag, both in Bacolod, by Senior Insp. Jose Mulleta, Station 2 chief.

Macasa and Salimbot were brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital. However, Salimbot died at about 1:15 a.m., and 15 minutes later, Macasa was also declared dead, Mulleta said. moremoremore

Ex-cop nabbed in drug-bust

A dismissed police officer was arrested by the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group during a buy-bust operation in Rizal corner Washington Street, Barangay 2 in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, Monday, headed by Chief Inspector Benedict Poblete.

The suspect, identified as former Police Officer 1 Rommel Darvin Comcom, of Barangay 1 in Ilaya, Tanjay City, was nabbed after he delivered a big “bulto (pack)” of suspected shabu, weighing around six grams and worth P70,000, to a PAIDSOTG poseur buyer.

Recovered from Comcom were four other sachets containing suspected shabu granules weighing less than one gram and worth P11,000, a  homemade .45 caliber Colt pistol with one magazine and eight live ammunition, a bullet proof vest, a PNP badge, a cell phone, and improvised plastic tooters, among others. r.moremoremore
