Defer arraignment,
mayor, others ask

There was no arraignment of Silay City officials led by Mayor Jose Montelibano at the Sandiganbayan Second Division in Quezon City yesterday after they filed an omnibus motion for deferment.

The mayor and 17 others filed an omnibus motion for the deferment of their arraignment for a criminal case for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, in connection with a P18 million city government computerization project.

They asked that the arraignment be deferred during the pendency of an administrative case before the Supreme Court, and for the dismissal of the case for lack of probable cause.moremoremore

shabu in Bago

The Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group seized about P400,000 worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation Wednesday in Bago City, Negros Occidental.

The joint operations of the Police Regional Office 6 RAIDSOTG headed by Supt. Leonardo Angcon and the Bago City Police Station also led to the arrest of two Muslims, who are temporarily residing in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, identified as Naga Comagul, alias Naanji, 37; and Jamal Esmael, alias Jamal, 21, both of Lanao del Norte.

Supt. Arnel Arpon, Bago City police chief, said yesterday that the transactions for buying shabu started in Bacolod City, and materialized in Brgy. Pacol, Bago City, where Comagul and Esmael were arrested..moremoremore

PPA to spend P198 million for
Dumaguete, Siquijor ports

The Philippine Ports Authority said it will spend P198 million in projects this year for the ports of Dumaguete, Siquijor and others under its jurisdiction, that are due for completion this year or early next year.

The projects includes repair and improvement of the port lighting system of the base port in Dumaguete that will be changed to solar lights, Larena Siquijor; Siquijor, Siquijor at P42 million, repair of the curtain wall of Piers 1, 2, RoRo ramp, reinforced concrete mooring and fendering system at the port of Dumaguete, that which also has an allocation of P42 million.

The facilities were partially damaged during the last typhoons that hit the city and the province.moremoremore
