Albee’s backing of Jeffrey
for VG called speculation
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO
Talk of Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) supporting a Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.-Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) tandem, for the top posts of Negros Occidental in 2016, is mere speculation, Rep. Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod) said yesterday.
Paduano was reacting to claims that Benitez of Love Negros has agreed to support Ferrer for vice governor.
He said that, as far as he knows, Benitez makes decisions based on a collective decision of the group, referring to Love Negros.

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod deferred action yesterday on the ratification of the contract between the Bacolod City Government and Dynamic Builders and Construction Co. (Phil.) Inc. Joint Venture/E.M. Cuerpo.
This was done to give the SP members time to study the additional documents submitted by the garbage hauler, Bacolod Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya said yesterday.
The contract was signed by Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella representing the city and Ricardo Yanson Jr., representing Dynamic Builders, on December 29, 2014.

ON ONE ISLAND REGION STATEMENT
Degamo slams Marañon,
demands public apology
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo slammed Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. for his remarks on the proposal to create a One Island Region.
In his letter to President Benigno Aquino III, dated January 6, 2015, he wrote, “For and in behalf of the people of Negros Oriental, I, as governor of the province, most respectfully write this letter to express consternation and indignation to statements made by Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. in a local Negros Occidental newspaper concerning issues related to the proposal to create Negros as (a) One Island, One Region”.
He was referring to the statements of Marañon, who was quoted in a Bacolod-based newspaper as saying, “In the end, it will be the president, not Degamo, who will decide whether the island region should be created or not”.
