DIHON artists, students
create Pope Francis mural
Members of the Dibuhista nga Naghiliugyon sa Negros artist group are creating a 35-meter mural on the wall of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City, to highlight the visit of Pope Francis in the country from January 15-19, their press release said.
The UNO-R students also participated in the mural painting, on the theme “Pope Francis, Pope of the People,” Revo Yanson, chair of DIHON, said in the press release.
The mural speaks of the visual signature image of Pope Francis at the center, the Pope as pedicab driver, as peacemaker between the rebels and the military, as a sakada worker, doing selfie with the youth, and smiling with the young people, the press release also said.
Marvin Blanco said this is the only mural in the country that translates Pope Francis' "charism" in a comical way.
The participating artists are Yanson, Jolen Resuma, Jam Bayoneta, Karlo Burdeos, Larry Guillema, Stephen Basoy, Rodel Rojo, Larry Occeña, Zardo Saballa, Bro. Jaazeal Jakosalem, Jude and Agustin Jakosalem, the press release added.*

Press club, Rotary ink MOA
for annual media awards
The Negros Press Club and the Rotary of Bacolod East entered into a memorandum of agreement Friday in Bacolod City to make the Media Excellence and Media Lifetime Achievement awards a joint undertaking of both organizations, a press release from the NPC said.
The MOA was signed by RCBE president Councilor Sonya Verdeflor and NPC president Carla Cañet with officers and members of both clubs as witnesses during the RCBE 32nd anniversary held 21 Resto Friday, it said.
The RCBE, guided by Rotary's Four-Way Test, advances a good public image as to the object of Rotary that fosters the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society, the press release said.
The NPC, being an association of practitioners sharing a common profession imbued with public interest, aims to foster in their ranks the most profound consciousness of their duties and responsibilities as media practitioners; to enable them to act effectively in safeguarding the rights and prerogatives of the press in its mission of serving the public interest; to strengthen fraternity among themselves, it also said.
In November 2014, both parties successfully hosted a joint Media Awards Night in recognition of the achievements and accomplishments of members of the media through the RCBE Media Lifetime Achievement Awards and the NPC Media Excellence Awards, the press release said.
In view of the goodwill and fellowship that the joint Media Awards Night brought to the community, the parties through their respective Boards, resolved to make the joint RCBE Media Lifetime Achievement Awards and NPC Media Excellence Awards an annual event, it said.
Both parties agreed to jointly host and sponsor this every October of each year.
They also agreed that the RCBE will handle the nominations and awarding of deserving media practitioners-awardees for the Lifetime Achievement Awards and the NPC will handle the nominations and awarding of deserving media practitioners-awardees for the Excellence Awards, the press release said.
The parties also finally agreed to shoulder the expenses and public image promotions for their respective Media Awards in the joint celebrations, it added.*
