Sharp-BCAN `D League

St. John’s Institute 10-Under basketball team routed the Warriors, 92-52, while University of St. La Salle delivered a similar blow to the Warriors 12-Under squad, 84-72, in the finals of the Sharp-BCAN-LNA7-SBP Developmental League at the STI-West Negros University gym yesterday.

In the 10-Under championship match, the SJI Baby Falscons used their height and bulk advantage over the Warriors with Zachary Paul Lopez leading the surge and clinching the Most Valuable Player award. Joining him in the mythical five selection were his fellow Johnians Kenneth Bayquin and Miguel Dosayla, and Joseph Parohinog and Vince Paolo Librado of the Warriors.

VGCC, NGAP train young golf players

The Victorias Golf and Country Club, a subsidiary of Victorias Milling Company, Inc., and the National Golf Association of the Philippines are tapping new golf talents in the province through NGAP’s National Grassroots Development Program, a press release from VGCC said.

The program aims to develop golf talents in the provinces who will hopefully be among the elite group of Filipino champion golf players someday.

NGAP chose VGCC, believing there is untapped talent among the children who grew up in and around the 63-hectare golf course, the press release said.

Runners’ Week in Bacolod

An ordinance declaring every first week of October as “the Runners’ Week”, was passed on first reading by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panglunsod Wednesday.

The ordinance authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa, Jr. include fun and race events for joggers, runners, marathoners and those who participate on walk as sports or recreation.

Gamboa said that since most fun runs are held in Bacolod City, it is best to conduct the Runners Week on the first week of October which will also serve as part of the month long MassKara Festival opening salvo. Besides this is already an event that the city conducts during the MassKara Festival opening, he said.
