‘No word war’ between
two Negros governors

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

There is no word war between Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., over the proposal for a one island region, the former clarified.

Degamo said he was merely reacting to the statements of Marañon, reported in print and broadcast media in Bacolod, particularly one that says, “in the end, it will be the President, not Degamo who will decide whether the island region should be created or not”.

He said he considered that statement sweeping and presumptuous, and no less a grave insult to the office he is representing as governor of Negros Oriental.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo said his administration will seek funds in order to provide public transportation to residents, especially in remote and hinterland barangays.

He make the assurance Monday when he gave four multi-cabs to barangays Tanglad in Manjuyod, Banban in Mabinay, Cabugan, Bindoy, and Nagbalaye in Sta. Catalina and turned over their keys to barangay officials at the blessing and turnover ceremony in front of the Capitol.

He said the multi-cabs will provide transportation services to residents especially for the poor, in far-flung barangays, and during emergencies, like bringing patients to the hospital.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria reiterated his statement that the city government will prioritize the repair of roads damaged in the past year this year amid mounting public clamor against the current state of roads in Dumaguete City.

Many roads in Dumaguete have been destroyed recently by heavy rains and flooding with deep potholes posing threat to motorists, especially at night.

Sagarbarria said the city government has about P32 million in surplus funds from 2014, but this will have to be shared among the city’s 30 barangays.
