National evaluators recommend
Bacolod as child-friendly city bet

The National Awards Committee Evaluators for the Search for Child Friendly Governance have initially recommended Bacolod City as a candidate for the most child-friendly highly urbanized city during an exit conference Friday at the MassKara Function Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center, a press release from the City said.

The evaluators, led by Planning Officer 3 Ruth Marayag, Child Paticipation and Regional Sub Committee for the Welfare of Children coordinator Andre Canilag, Edna Nito, Health Education and Promotion officer IV, and Rebecca Barrios, visited and evaluated barangays Villamonte, Alangilan, Mandalagan 10 and 20, and gave their recommendations, the press release it said.

The team pointed out several actions the Bacolod City for the Protection of Children must undertake, such as a master-list and database on children, rights-based situation analysis on children, barangay action plan with budget allocation, as well as a list that focuses on essential services, local ordinances, annual state of the barangay children report, and Barangay Children’s Association, the press release said.

They also suggested enhancing resource generation and mobilization activities and to have an updated population census or information, and initiate an annual “Search for the Most Child-Friendly Barangay” as a strategy, it also said.

Bacolod City is one of four finalists in the Highly Urbanized City category alongside Puerto Princesa City, Cagayan de Oro City, Pasig City and Davao City.

The awarding is scheduled in March, the press release added.*
