Kenyans dominate Cebu marathon

A year after quitting mid-way through the race, Kenyan Philip Ronoh won his first men's title in the Cebu City Marathon in 2 hours, 53 minutes and 28 seconds Sunday at the Cebu IT Park in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Ronoh, who finished second in 2010 and fourth in 2011, quit 30 kilometers into the race last year due to pain in his right knee.

He felt pain again this year, but managed to hold on to win.

“In marathon, anything can happen and anything can affect your performance. You just have to try and try until you succeed," he said.

Garnett ejected from gameafter
head-butting Howard

Kevin Garnett lost his cool and Brooklyn Nets lost again yesterday, falling 113-99 to the Houston Rockets.

Garnett, known for his passion in a 20-year NBA career, played little over four minutes before he was ejected from the game for an altercation in which he head-butted Rockets center Dwight Howard with 7:53 to play in the first quarter.

Howard was slapped with a technical foul after some testy shoving between the two but stayed in the game.

Ronaldo beats Messi to
Ballon d'Or triumph

Portugal and Real Madrid great Cristiano Ronaldo lifted his third FIFA world footballer of the year award Monday in an overwhelming win over eternal rival Lionel Messi, Barcelona's Argentine magician.

The 29-year-old forward -- who played a key role in Real Madrid's charge to a 10th Champions League trophy -- beat four-time winner Messi to the Ballon d'Or for the second year in a row. Germany's World Cup winning goalkeeper Manuel Neuer came third in the vote.

Ronaldo was the star of a glittering FIFA awards ceremony in Zurich at which Real Madrid teammate James Rodriguez won the goal of the year award and Germany's Joachim Loew was declared coach of the year.
