SP approves tricycle fare
reduction in Dumaguete

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Dumaguete Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the lowering of fares, from P8.50 to P6.50 for each passenger of motorcabs-for-hire, or pedicabs and tricycles, in Dumaguete City, after retail prices of petroleum products were reduced.

The resolution adjusted the fare, authored by Councilor Nilo Sayson, was approved Wednesday after retail pump prices in Dumaguete dropped to as low as P29.70 per liter for diesel, P38.32 for unleaded gas, and P38.67 for premium gas.

A public hearing was also held to get the consensus of the riding public, and the operators and drivers of pedicabs.

Breakdown of dump trucks stalls
garbage collection, ENRO says
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The delayed collection of garbage in Dumaguete City in the past days was due to the breakdown of dump trucks of the city, Rey Awayan Sr., head of the city’s Environment and Natural Resources Office, said.

Awayan said the problem was contained yesterday after he requested the City Engineer’s Office for a pay loader and two dump trucks to augment the other garbage trucks of the city.

He said the pay loader and the two dump trucks began hauling trash from the Quezon Park, where huge piles of garbage had accumulated since the city’s fiesta celebration in November through the holidays.
