The “Passing Through: Night Drawings” debut solo exhibition of Anna Lacson will open 5 p.m. today at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Foyer Gallery of Silliman University in Dumaguete City, and will run until February 13, a press release from organizers said.
The show is presented by the SU Department of Fine Arts, and features graphite line drawings on black wood panels. The artist collects material for her work through “Citywalks”, that she describes as a mental ritual and an exercise that requires reconditioning of the mind, the press release also said.
Lacson creates sketches and photographs during walks about the two capital cities of Negros Island, Bacolod in Negros Occidental and Dumaguete in Negros Oriental. The ‘Night Drawings” are influenced by the minimalist approach of Mondrian and Frank Stella, and Filipino artists Lao Lian Ben and Arturo Luz.
Lacson is a multi-disciplinary artist from Bacolod, and studied drawing, painting, and design at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha Cuenca, Spain in 2011, studied Information Design from the Ateneo de Manila University, and is earning her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, majoring in painting, under the SU Fine Arts Program, the press release also said.
