Appeal lodged vs. no parking
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Philippine National Bank-Araneta Branch in Bacolod City is requesting the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod to allow their clients to park temporarily in front of their establishment, with the city’s implementation of the “no parking policy,” that took effect Thursday.

In her letter dated January 7 to Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya and the SP, Ma. Bambi Tribaco, branch head, said they are a customer service organization, and that the growth and success of their business depends on the kind of service they can provide their clientele.

She said a key to better customer service is the provision of parking to clients but their existing physical structure could not provide for a parking area and they are requesting to be allowed temporary parking to continue giving their clients that will “encourage their loyalty, and attract more customers.”

Tribaco is asking that their clients be allowed to park temporarily in front of their building at Araneta Street for 10 to 15 minutes and their armored car at least 30 minutes.

Councilor Ana Marie Palermo, chairman of the SP Committee on Laws, Ordinance and Good Government, yesterday said she will conduct a committee conference on the matter on Tuesday.

They will send invitations on Monday to the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, Traffic Management Office, City Legal Office and the Bacolod City Police Office, she said.

Palermo said they will also invite the representatives of the bankers association to find out if there are other banks similarly situated.

Based on feedback they have received, everybody welcomed the streets of Lacson and Araneta being passable and that there are no traffic jam in problem areas, City Legal Officer Rayfrando Diaz lll said.

He said this is an educational campaign period. Their thrust is to educate, convince and let the people of Bacolod see that supporting the city’s no parking program along Araneta and Lacson streets will be for the benefit of all concerned.

The city government has also created ‘Task Force No Parking’ to monitor and apprehend motorists who have violated the No Parking Ordinance along Lacson and Araneta streets.

This is composed of elements from BTAO, TMU, City Legal Enforcement Unit and PAAD.

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said the traffic experiment is only for a week and they will start to apprehend violators after that. The No Parking rule along Araneta and Lacson streets will only take effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during weekdays and will be lifted during weekends so motorists will be free to park along these roads.

He said fines and penalties will be implemented next week and a civil case will also be filed in court against violators as mandated by the ordinance.
