Calls for action to
aid street people
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle yesterday called for a concerted effort to find a more permanent solution to the plight of people living on the streets.

Tagle, who received a Fides Award from the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod, was reacting to reports that during the visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines, hundreds of street children and homeless people were carted off to a plush resort in Batangas province by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

“If there was any intention to hide the street children from him they were not hidden, we were able to bring the Holy Father to the street children being sheltered in one house and they were able to interact,” Tagle said.moremoremore

FAITHFUL URGED
Pray for success of
Eucharistic Congress

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes exhorted the Catholic faithful to pray for the success of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress in January 2016 in Cebu City.

Cortes spoke at the Eucharistic celebration he presided over after the arrival of the 2015 IEC pilgrimage symbol to the Diocese Sunday afternoon.

The Dumaguete Diocese is the first outside of Cebu to receive the 51st IEC symbol, a replica of the shrine that houses Magellan’s cross. This signals the start of the national pilgrimage across the country.moremoremore
