in taxes, nears 2015 target
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Bacolod City government is on its way to achieving the targets it set for 2015 based on recent figures provided by the Bacolod City Treasurer's Office and Permits and Licensing Office, Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said during his State of the Booming Bacolod Address Wednesday.

Puentevella said that from January to May, they have already raised more than P400 million in tax revenues, just 23 percent shy of their P520 million target for the whole year and still with seven months to go.

In the non tax revenues, they have posted a collection of almost P104 million, just about P62 million less or 38 percent of this year's target of around P166 million, he said.

National Food Authority personnel conducted surprise inspections at three major public markets in Bacolod City yesterday morning following reports of the entry of fake rice in Davao City.

NFA provincial manager Procopio Trabajo II, who led the inspections, said they did not find any synthetic rice being sold at different commercial rice outlets at the Burgos Public Market, Libertad Market and Central Market.

Trabajo maintained that it is impossible for fake rice to enter Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, since it had already been intercepted in Mindanao.

30 firms join job fair

About 30 local companies and seven recruitment agencies, including BPO firms Convergys, TeleTech, Panasiatic, Transcom and Teleperformance, took part in the MKK job fair yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella visited the simultaneous MKK job fair and Barangayan during his birthday yesterday, a press release from City Hall said.

“Thank you for helping our fellow Bacolodnons who are searching for a better life,” Puentevella, who turned 69 years old, said as he recognized the companies and volunteers in the event.
