Villanueva faces Puerto Rican Arroyo for
vacant IBF super flyweight crown
Negrense Arthur Villanueva is heading for the United States to fight fellow undefeated McJoe Arroyo for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight belt on July 18 in El Paso, Texas.
Villanueva is 27-0 with 14 KOs, while Arroyo is 16-0 with 8 KOs. The fight in Texas is touted as Villanueva's biggest fight to date in his seven years as professional boxer.
"I'm not thinking that I'm fighting in the US, my mindset is that this is my last chance to fight for a world title and I won't let this slip away," said Villanueva, who beat Julio Cesar Miranda by unanimous decision in his last fight last Feb. 7.

Ibe gets twice-to-beat Despite a 95-83 loss in the hands of Team Ballesteros in their last assignment in the elimination round, the team of Bong Ibe remained at No. 1 in the team standings and earned a twice-to-beat edge in the semifinals of the Your Basketball Athletic Club 2nd Conference Basketball Tournament. The semifinals will start tomorrow at the STI-West Negros University gym, a press release from YBAC said. Following a quadruple tie at the end of the elimination round, Ibe's team earned the top post, edging the second best squad of Vincent Javelosa, 41-31, in point system tie-break. |
