Why Junjun stepped down
So Makati Mayor Junjun Binay finally gave in, and stepped down, days after the suspension order was delivered to his office. That is something he should have done when his suspension order was issued, for the second time. Perhaps he and his family had felt that the massing and hysteria of their supporters would enable him to avoid being out of office for some time.

The massing of the so-called Binay defenders, as expected, led to a confrontation between them and the Police. Very clearly, as shown on TV and on print media, this could only mean charges against those over-acting supporters, because their faces were very distinguishable to the public. Of course they know that the Binays will bail them out or provide them with lawyers for being such loyal and mindless defenders.

As for the accused himself, he is reported to have said that he was stepping down because his people might get hurt while clashing with the agents of the law. He reportedly said this was the only reason why he decided to step down. Hero pa rin. And that picture of him hugging his dad was, perhaps designed to be a tearjerker, that for sure, their loyalists would admire. The order of the court was only for suspension, he was not even dumped into the same quarters as Senator Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla.

In the meantime, his equally beleaguered father is trying all the legal tricks he could think of to keep him from facing the judges, even if only to clear his name. Does that mean he believes in his heart of hearts, that exoneration is assured for him? It is obvious, though, that all those charged at the Ombudsman and the Sandiganbayan are playing for time, because the election is coming, and there is a certain period before it when the erring ones and the suspects can no longer be suspended.

Officials of the Department of Health are reported to be worried about by the rise in pneumonia cases in the country. Well, they are not the only ones who are alarmed, some people in Bacolod are also afraid because of talks going around that some of the pneumonia cases developed AFTER the patients were brought to the hospital. In fact, I know personally of at least three cases, where the patient was brought in for other not-so-serious ailments, but developed the disease while already in the hospital. One, a relative, was admitted for a minor ailment, I think it was a minor stroke (if there is such a term). The wife said they paid more for the hospital acquired pneumonia, than for his original ailment. How can hospitals remove the impression that their patients got pneumonia after entering the hospital?

What is this we hear about “fake” rice being sold in the country? Who could be the heartless culprits who would expose people, especially young children to the dangers of eating rice that is produced, not from rice plants, but by some mechanical means? The reports also say that this kind of rice was discovered in Cotabato and Davao, but people should be wary after so many dangerous substances, including items for make-up were foisted on our unsuspecting consumers.

Wow! Manny Pacquiao is listed as the number two richest athletes in the world by Forbes Magazine! It's an honor for our Pacman, of whom we are very proud, but don't look at BIR Commissioner, who must be salivating to get her hands on a substantial portion of that wealth. The number one richest is his latest opponent, the brash braggart, who made his money, not from boxing, but from running away in his opponent, a strategy that those American judges admired.*
