Hope dims for rescue
of missing fishermen
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Hope of finding the seven Negrense fishermen missing at sea alive dimmed yesterday, four days after their vessel sank between Gigantes Islands off the coast of northeastern Iloilo, and Madridejos town in Bantayan, Cebu.

Lt. Commander Ramil Palabrica, Coast Guard Bacolod Station chief, said John Rey Vergara, Antic Celeste, Gerry Bangalisan, Norberto Patriarca and three others identified only as Jomar, Jimbol and Anel, who were on board F/B Inday Sweet when it sank at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, had not been found as of yesterday.

Coast Guard units from Iloilo, Cebu and Masbate have been searching for the F/B Inday Sweet crew, he said.

Hope of finding the seven alive was dimming, considering that they had been missing since Thursday, Connie Batuigas, a relative of Bangalisan, said yesterday.moremoremore

‘Shabu' seized,
suspect evades arrest
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A drug suspect evaded arrest but two packs of suspected shabu, weighing 20 grams and worth about P236,000, were seized from his house in Purok Orchids, Sitio Canday-ong, Barangay Calindagan in Dumaguete City recently.

A composite team from the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs-Special Operations Task Group, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Dumaguete Police swooped down on the house of Ernesto Caba, alias “Erning”, 54, on the strength of a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio Jr.

The operation was witnessed by barangay kagawad George Paloma and the media, but the respondent was not around when the operatives arrived. The raiding team, however, recovered two “bultos (big packs)” of suspected shabu and one small sachet containing suspected shabu residue.moremoremore
