Oil firms cut pump prices

MANILA -- Oil firms will cut pump prices of petroleum products by 65 centavos per liter today.

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. (PSPC), PTT Philippines, Seaoil Philippines Inc. (SPI), Petron Corp., Phoenix Petroleum Philippines and Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) said they are reducing diesel prices by 65 centavos per liter, which had a prevailing price of P29.80 per liter based on the Department of Energy's (DOE's) oil monitor.

The six oil companies are also reducing gasoline prices by 70 centavos per liter from its prevailing rate of P46.95 per liter.

Shell, Seaoil, Petron and Chevron, on the other hand, will cut kerosene prices by 65 centavos per liter.

NFA issues fake rice advisory

The National Food Authority in Negros Occidental released an advisory yesterday in response to the fake rice scare that has kept the entire country on alert after the emergence of local reports of fake rice first appearing in Davao.

NFA Provincial Manager Procopio Trabaho II said yesterday that the advisory is meant to protect the health and safety of the general public in the province from the hazards of consuming the so-called fake rice reportedly circulating around Southeast Asia.

Trabaho cited the advisory in instructing consumers to purchase their rice only from accredited or licensed retailers, designated public markets, and supermarkets within the locality.

Negros egg rates drop in June

A prevailing market price report from the Provincial Veterinary Office for the month of June showed that the prices of eggs went down slightly, in comparison to May egg prices.

Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, yesterday said that delays in market delivery and the decrease in demand were some of the factors that affected the reduction of egg prices.

The price report indicated that chicken egg prices decreased by around three to six centavos per piece, with prices of small eggs down from P5.49 to P5.43, medium eggs down from P6.18 to P6.15, large eggs down from P6.82 to P6.78, and XL eggs went down from P7.36 to P7.32.
