Foundation University president Vicente Sinco turned over the floating marine sanctuary recently, to Barangay Captain Efren Teves of Bantayan, Dumaguete City, a government press release said.
The sanctuary promotes the preservation of the marine environment and provides a place where fish wardens can do their job efficiently and effectively.
FU Architecture students created the sanctuary that floats in the water, using only native bamboo and recycled plastics.
The P1.6 million collaborative project of ‘Estudio Damgo 3' is the third for the students, and designed to support food security in the community.
FU consultant Paul Marin said this is the first design-build architectural educational program in the Philippines.
The press release said “Estudio Damgo” is a pioneering and award-winning program that teaches architecture students a sustainable approach to designing and meeting a community need.
The inauguration was attended by city and barangay officials.*RG/PR
