Following a 102-77 blowout in the elimination round against 3-time tournament champion AA Electrical, GAB Sports came out with a big game in the first quarterfinals to secure a semifinal berth in the D-League Basketball Invitational at the STI-West Negros University gym, a press release from the organizers said.
Arvin Divino scored all his 21 points in the second half to lead GAB Sports while teammate Cesar Baloyo nailed four free throws in the dying seconds to seal the 74-66 win. Baloyo finished with 12 points.
Other contributors Etoy Zuniga's GAB Sports victory were Andrie Enad and Hubert Nusog with 8 points each, Emil Guanzon with 7, Jan Alcantara hit 6 points, Augller Derrama with 5, a combined 6 points from Jan Lee, Francis Andren, Llamado and Aidin Derrama.
Meanwhile, JP Peornato paced AA Electrical in losing effort with 14 points as Dave Andog added 9s and Francis Ramos with 5 points.
Gideon Ang, Saavedra, Bert Labrador and Carlo Sombria scored 4 points each as Exekiel Martinez, Reygin Oquiana and Shaun Ferrer added 3points apiece. Sherwin Sorbito and Junuel Juayong combined for 3 points.
In the other match-up, Luigi Herrera hit five treys to anchor SKF past Kublai Khan, 71-63, and advance into the semifinals.
Kevin Armas backstopped Herrera with 14 points as Diome Publico added 9, while Dennis Arellano and Alex Lopez knocked 6 points each. Combining for 21 points are Don Cerna, Ribo Pateno, Andrew Ortega, Wawa Armas, Patrick Lizares and Jed Norico.
Kublai Khan's offense, on the other hand, was led by Ceasar Noble with 12 points as Michael Loretizo added 10, Paisa Alonzo with 9, Adrian Anglo hit 7 markers, Brian Tajonera, John Lee, Kendrick Deloria, Ambok Javelosa, Tim Garrucho and Brian Gonzalez combined for 20 points.
Other quarterfinal games will be on July 14 featuring league leader Chromic against No. 8 Rotary while No. 2 Pacific Ads takes on No. 7 Boston Finance. Both Chromic and Pacific Ads will have the twice-to-beat advantage.*
