Population census reset to Aug. 10
BY RENE GENOVE

The date of listing and enumeration for the 2015 Census of Population was moved from August 1, to Aug. 10-Sept. 6 at the Negros Oriental Provincial Convention Center Capitol area in Dumaguete City.

Philippine Statistics Authority-Negros Oriental statistician, Felida Generoso, said the schedule was moved to give more time for the training of enumerators and other preparations for this year's PopCen.

The PSA hired enumerators and team supervisors to conduct the census. The regular staff of PSA in Negros Oriental will act as census area supervisors, its press release said.

Generoso said PSA will hire additional CAS to augment the short number of PSA regular personnel who will act as area supervisors. “As of now, all our regular personnel designated as CAS are in Cebu for the second level training. They will, in turn, be the trainers for the third level training next week,” she had earlier said.

The training will be held at the Provincial Convention Center in Dumaguete City and will last for six days. Those who participated in this training will train the enumerators and team supervisors at the fourth level training held in cities and towns of Negros Oriental.

Generoso said even though the period of enumeration and listing has been moved to different dates, the consensus reference date is still Aug. 1. She added the PSA requests the public to cooperate with enumerators during the census as all information gathered will be held strictly confidential.

The information obtained in the census will be used as basis in crafting development policies in the government, and in the allocation of resources and revenues.

Based on the 2010 data, the population in Negros Oriental is pegged at 1.2867 million, and growth rate at 1.31 percent.

Dumaguete City ranked first among the cities and municipalities with the biggest population at 120,883 in 2010; followed by Bayawan City, 114, 074; and Guihulngan City, 93,675 residents.*RG
