Coaches attend 3-day training

A three-day training-seminar on coaching of the different sports events for coaches and teachers in Negros Occidental started yesterday at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center in Bacolod City.

The training is a program of the Department of Education in collaboration with the provincial government, and the Philippine Sport Commission, a press release from the Capitol said.

DepEd has organized and assigned resource speakers and facilitators for archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, billiard, boxing, chess, football, futsal, gymnastics, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, and wushu.

Provincial sports coordinator Angel Verdeflor, who represented Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr., said the training is important especially with the creation of the new Negros Island Region or Region 18.

Verdeflor said the governor has always been supportive of the Negrense athletes as he cited the accomplishments of Negrense boxers and taekwondo jins in the recent Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, the press release said.

Also present at the opening program were AnthonyLiobet, OIC-Schools Division Superintendent of the Division of Negros Occidental, Councilor Wilson C. Gamboa, Jr. of Bacolod City, and Education Program Supervisor Romeo C. Sison, Jr., the press release said*
