10,000 cry for justice
BY SHIELA GELERA
A police estimated crowd of about 10,000 brought slain Negros Occidental Board Member Renato Malabor Sr. to his final resting place at the Caram Private Cemetery in Barangay Guintubhan, Isabela, Negros Occidental, Saturday afternoon.
The family and supporters of Malabor wore black T-shirts that bore the message “Hustisya sa Kamatayon ni Board Nato (Justice for the Death of Board Nato)”, while others held up placards and streamers demanding the same along the funeral route.
Malabor, 55, and his bodyguard Leody Jomilla, 52, were gunned down by a lone assassin outside a cockpit at Barangay Guintubdan, Isabela, at 1:10 a.m. on June 28.
Leonardia bill eyes creation
of Metro Bacolod authority
As Bacolod and her neighbors develop, we increasingly see the need to coordinate their efforts; otherwise, we might find them at cross-purposes with each other.
This was how Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia explained why he filed House Bill No. 5918 that will create the Metropolitan Bacolod Development Authority (MBDA) as a Special Development Administered Unit.
We do not want a situation where one local government unit (LGU) declares as industrial zone its area beside the residential area of another LGU, Leonardia said..

‘Ethanol plant has ECC'
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE
The Fuel Ethanol Plant in Tamisu, Bais City, Negros Oriental, was issued an Environmental Compliance Certificate on May 30, 2014, records of the Provincial Environmental Management Unit in the province show.
This was after Bais Mayor Mercy Teves Goni said the plant operates without a mayor's permit and an occupancy permit.
Officer-in-charge Loreto Rivac of PEMU, that is under the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, said the discharge permit for the plant's wastewater treatment facility has not been issued yet.
